The purpose of Kontakt Player is to play back instrument samples. Since it's based on Kontakt 6, a powerful sampling platform, the program is aimed primarily at Native Instruments, but it works with third-party instruments as well. On its own, it serves as an excellent sample player, with a vast range of useful options, but together with other Native Instruments software, like Kontakt 6 or the Komplete Start package, you can produce and enjoy anything from classical music to rock concerts.

Kontakt Player is absolutely free, and you can download it and install it through Native Access, the official distribution platform of Native Instruments. Once you've installed the client on your computer, you can find Kontakt Player on its user interface, after which you can get it and install it with a single click.

Although it's simpler than its counterparts, Kontakt Player can be a bit intimidating to novice users. However, the user interface is organized in a logical manner, and thanks to all the labels and tooltips, you will always know what you click on. You can browse through libraries, local files, databases and through some advanced engine-related sections, on the left half of the user interface. Once you find something you want to play back, you can just drag it to the right half of the window.

The program lets you work with multiple samples at once, which you can just drag and drop to the multi-rack on the right side of the window. The player presents a series of basic controls and details for each loaded sample, but if you switch to editing mode, you will get a vast range of adjustment options for each individual sample.

There are numerous possibilities you can explore when playing samples with this piece of software. You can start by tweaking the source signal and adding special effects, combining instrument insert and send effects, adjusting various modulation parameters and much more. You may also work with mapping, wave and script editors, to get new and unique sounds.

If you're looking for a professional solution for playing audio samples, you should look no further than Kontakt Player.

Pros

The software can play anything from Native Instruments, as well as third-party instruments. It lets you work with several samples in parallel. It provides a vast range of useful tools.

Cons

Beginners will need some time to learn how to use this piece of software.
